WHAT IS THE MMRSL?
The Mississauga Mixed Recreational Slo-Pitch League (“MMRSL”) is a slo-pitch softball league for adult males and females. We are an affiliated group with Mississauga Parks and Recreation and play games in the Mississauga area. The MMRSL was established in 1989.
WHAT IS THE LEAGUE’S FORMAT/STRUCTURE?
The league structure is determined by the number of teams and skill level of those teams in the league, which may vary from year to year.
As of 2014 the league has been organized into four recreational groups of 6 to 8 teams, simply known as “Tier 1” through “Tier 4”, that span Slo-Pitch National Co-Ed D and E divisions. Teams may be moved up or down a tier during the season at the discretion of the Executive to facilitate a fair, relatively similar level of play within tiers that provides a fun yet competitive season.
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AGE OF THE LEAGUE MEMBERS?
Most members are in the range of 24 to 38 years of age.
WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR THE LEAGUE?
The league uses the Slo-Pitch National rules and regulations, with a few exceptions that are presented in the Bylaws section of this website.
DOES THE LEAGUE HAVE UMPIRES?
The MMRSL uses umpires that are carded by Slo-Pitch National. Each of the games has one umpire, while two umpires are used for the playoff finals.
DOES THE LEAGUE USE A MAT?
As of 2017, the MMRSL does use a strike board for determining balls and strikes.
HOW MANY GAMES DO YOU PLAY IN A YEAR?
The number of scheduled games varies slightly from year to year based on the amount of teams in the league and availability of diamonds. Over the past few years we have scheduled approximately 26-28 games in a season, or 13-14 weeks.
WHAT NIGHT OF THE WEEK ARE YOUR GAMES?
The MMRSL schedules games on Sunday nights, with no games scheduled on holiday weekends.
HOW MANY GAMES DO YOU PLAY IN A NIGHT?
Two games are played by each team in a night. Teams are scheduled for doubleheaders against a single other team in their own division. Each game is approximately 70 minutes in length.
WHAT ARE THE GAME TIMES?
Four games are scheduled each Sunday night at 5:45, 7:00, 8:15, and 9:30.
WHERE DO WE PLAY?
The MMRSL uses diamonds in the City of Mississauga. Please see the Parks section of this website for the full list and directions.
WHAT CALIBRE IS THE LEAGUE?
While the league is a co-ed recreational one, it is competitive and spans Slo-Pitch National D and E divisions. New players to the league are added to teams that are a best-fit to their skill level, after a brief meet-and-greet session held in February.
DOES THE LEAGUE HAVE ANY EVENTS?
The MMRSL holds a few events each year for its members. In June, there is the annual MMRSL Invitational Slo-Pitch Tournament held out of Dunton Athletic Fields on Kennedy Rd. in Mississauga. In November, the MMRSL holds its annual Banquet with over 90% of members surveyed wanting one each year. Additionally, there are meetings held throughout the year for all members to voice their opinions and ideas. For more information regarding any upcoming events please reference the Meetings/Events section of this website.
WHAT ARE THE LEAGUE FEES?
Reviewed by the Executive Committee each year, the fees for the 2020 season are $225 for all members — $200 if before April 1 — and included all your games and related costs (diamonds, umpires, bases, spikes, equipment bag as needed, game balls) and the League tournament and banquet. Refunds are not issued to players if they don’t play all of their games or take advantage of the banquet. Circumstances under which refunds are issued are outlined in the Rules/Constitution section.
